Q:  Dear Paul  What's going on with all the catfish in the backwater???  And, have you seen Marcus lately at the Blue Parrot???  Oh...and one more thing, what’s the best cigar to set the mood for early morning fishing???

- Gerry, Hyannis Port, MA

A:  Good Morning Gerry, actually, the catfish have moved back up the river here in Olde Naples. They are back near the 41 bridge eating French fries under the Riverwalk deck.  They were downstream earlier due to a slow start to the tourist season.

Marcus has not been seen at the Blue Parrot.  He now spends his time at The Real Macaw where he has long conversations with the bird.

A nice early morning cigar is a Bartolomé Masó.  Nothing like a shot of brandy in your coffee and a good BM to get your day going! - Paul

Q: Dear PaulWhere and how a Pacific-blue-belly like myself can catch a hawg-Marlin and some Tarpon in a seven day trip to the Keys.  Oh, and what is a good morning cigar…

- Chadillac Bogarelli, Florence, OR

A: Hey Chadillac, Get hold of Capt. Jeff Shelar in Marathon, 305-481-4568. He`s the man---fishes out of Capt. Pips Marina at mile marker 47.5----that`s about halfway to Key West from MIami.  If you want to do it on your own, hire a boat at Bud and Mary`s at the Seven Mile Bridge and anchor under the bridge with a big rod, live mullet and you will catch tarpon.  Guide is better all around.  You need the man for Marlin!!!

I like a Marcus Daniel Habano in the morning----with a Cuban Coffee!! - Paul

Q:  Dear Paul...  Where did the Snook go?  What happened to them & why?  Where are they now and which fly & technique should be used to catch them?  Oh... and which cigar is best enjoyed after a nice big Snook dinner?

- Andrew, Grand Rapids, MI

A:  Andrew, It`s a natural cycle. They`ll be back in force, bigger and stronger. The cold fronts in early 2010 killed off a lot of fish, many snook.. This happened in the backwater where they “winter." In May thru August the fish are in the passes and along the beaches, they`ve come from the backwater.  Next season they will be back in force after wintering in a milder backwater.  2011 will be a good year and 2012 even better. Sit back, enjoy a Marcus Daniel HABANO and the fish will come! - Paul
